in afghanistan the history of the new invader does not spell victory . alex the great made it home dead . the afghans these days say something like this ’ my grandfather fought the british ,my father fought the russians , i am fighting the americans and my son will fight the chinese . ‘and heidi , your version of history is pretty much right on . except that when the taliban first showed up in kandahar they brought the promise of stability . and america only rented hekmatier . there was almost 10 years of afghan fighting afghan . no one won the fight . all of the big shots kept fighting each other and / or changing sides and supporting the enemy of the day before . the border area or the so called tribal territory in pakistan has never been ruled by any government other than the tribes themselves . and the different clans are always struggling to see which one will be the strongest and best armed and control the flow of whatever is flowing thru their area . the vultures will end up going home dead just like alex the great . i hope the new york times prints your article heidi .
